International Crisis Group

The ICG was founded in 1995 and is an immensely respected source of information for contemporary global political conflict. The Crisis Group’s bulletins on current conflicts and political hotspots provide excellent analyses that eschew force-based solutions to seemingly persistent conflicts in favor of institutionally-based approaches.
National Endowment for Democracy

The NED is a non-profit organization founded in 1983 that focuses on disseminating the fundamental tenets of democracy. The NED provides grants to democratization groups all around the world based on the idea that democracy building requires time, the fusion of formal and informal social institutions, and a fundamental recognition of traditions of collective governance in diverse contexts.

Founded in 1923, the SSRC works to link current social research with contemporary political and economic problems. With a focus on inter-disciplinary cooperation, the SSRC has consistently sought innovative approaches to a broad array of global policy problems.
United States Institute of Peace

Founded by Congress in 1984, USIP focuses on enhancing peace-building initiatives, promoting post-conflict reconciliation, and developing tools for conflict-management. USIP employs a wide array of area experts with extensive experience in contemporary global affairs.
Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars

Established by Congress in 1968, the Wilson Center is a non-partisan organization for scholarship on global affairs. While it has no stated policy mission, it works to, in its own words, "…shed the light of timelessness on the timely." The IDC is especially interested in the topics discussed by Dr. Howard Wolpe and his associates at the Wilson Center's Africa Program.
